Greystone Village is a 26-acre mixed-use, LEED® ND v4 SILVER Certified, master-planned community inspired by the site’s 100-year-old history and the vibrant existing community which surrounds it. Situated adjacent to the Rideau River, the site has abundant waterfront access and views and is a short walk to the Rideau Canal, a designated UNESCO world heritage site. The site was acquired from the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, in 2014.
In the heart of Ottawa’s existing Old Ottawa East neighbourhood, the Oblate Lands is one of the largest remaining infill sites centred around the Edifice Deschâtelets Scholasticate Monastery, a heritage building, and home to the Fathers of the Oblate Order. The site had become an important part of the surrounding community, providing green space, local community gardens, and views of the Rideau River.
Clients
"The floor plan is fantastic to allow lots of light and the community is well planned so that we don't feel like we are right on top of our neighbour. We are very impressed with the quality of the build. "
Homeowners, Greystone Village
The development retains the flavour of the original heritage plan – the design includes an allée system directing the pedestrian flow through a tree-lined linear park to a forecourt, culminating at the Deschâtelets Building, which will be re-purposed for community amenities and housing. Incorporated into the new plan are shops, pedestrian-friendly boulevards, a central event plaza, beautiful green spaces, a multi-use pathway, and a scenic waterfront, promoting strong public connectivity and a link to both Main Street and the river. This new urbanist design promotes a pedestrian and cycling environment, limiting vehicles and parking, with the majority hidden in rear lanes and underground.
At final build-out, Greystone Village will have 950 homes, in 5 phases, with a mix of single-detached, townhomes, a number of mid to high-rise condominium towers, rental apartments, a Greystone Residence Retirement by successful developer, Lemay, and a mixed-use component. Bringing urban density to the area, Greystone Village is an essential component of the City’s Main Street revitalization project.
Greystone Village is the culmination of the commitment and talents of a diverse team spearheaded by Regional Group, as the developer, in partnership with homebuilder eQ Homes, Hobin Architecture, The Old Ottawa East Community Association, Sustainable Living Ottawa East, and the City of Ottawa.
